Secondo la Legge di Cooper «le macchine sono tutte degli amplificatori». Un’ormai obsoleto giradischi diventa quindi “ideale vettore di senso” per diffondere i suoni e i testi incisi da alcuni artisti di fama internazionale, oltre che un’occasione per rivivere il fascino e l’estetica dei dischi in vinile. La seconda session di Amplifier è dedicata agli audio-sample di Alva Noto, al gotico noise di Thomas Zipp e di Banks Violette, alle improvvisazioni di Michele Lombardelli e a quelle dell’inossidabile duo Meese&Berresheim, ed infine alla voce di Georg Baselitz (registrata nel 1987 in occasione della sua conferenza alla Royal Academy of Arts di Londra). Dischi rari, a tiratura limitata, che non sono solo da ascoltare ma anche da guardare, come dimostra l’incisione a mano sul doppio LP degli Olyvetty.

...yesterday the sweet italian mountain folks of the HUNDEBISS label and distribution (most probably the only underground distro in italy that sells strange tapes) visited antwerp for one day. they hooked me up big time with their OLYVETTY "im leeren" 7", the 7inch is limited to 333 copies and has this weird fold open cover art with a hand made pop out in it. i can especially dig the b side of the single, it has this strange slowed down 303 style tune in it...

Doppia uscita in vinile per il duo formato da Claudio Rocchetti (3/4hadbeeneliminated) e Riccardo Benassi, che danno prova di trovarsi perfettamente a loro agio non solo nelle indemoniate session live. Amano definirsi “an audio/visual environment” e vedendo il doppio picture-disc As All-Encompassing As A Hole, ciascuno dei quali ha un lato contenente musica e l’altro inciso a mano da Riccardo Benassi, non si può che essere concordi. Grande attenzione quindi per l’aspetto visivo e tattile che rappresenta il 50% della proposta in questione. Con un primo disco composto da registrazioni live: frammenti impazziti, schegge incendiarie, autentiche rasoiate al rumore bianco, cadenzati ritmici fracassoni, addirittura accenni rave-hardcore. Il tutto sotto l’insegna di uno spirito dadaista ed iconoclasta. Tanta violenza sonora non poteva che avere sul secondo disco una controparte composta e ragionata, fatta prevalentemente di freddi drones minimali confinante con una certa dark-ambient. L’altra faccia della medaglia dell’album non si presenta, comunque, meno inquietante e disturbante.

È la neonata Hundebiss, invece, a dare alle stampe, il 7” Im Leeren in 333 copie; un lato A che si riallaccia a quello che abbiamo detto per il primo disco di As All-Encompassing As A Hole: corrosivo e saturo, un emblema del feedback glorioso, che si intreccia con improbabili samples di colonne sonore. Un suono vitale e dinamico, tanto quanto quello che ci riserva il lato B con gli Olyvetty alle prese con l’ennesima mutazione: linee di basso acid house, synth zoppicanti, per una traccia anti-dance di sublime sorprendente fattura. Senza dimenticare il packaging pop-up che una volta aperto mostra con una sorta di scenografia il logo del gruppo.

Entrambe le release catturano il duo in uno straordinario stato di forma, viene solo da chiedersi se riusciremo mai a sentirli alle prese con materiale registrato nella tranquillità di un studio di registrazione. Forse no, ed è meglio così, perché una delle caratteristiche principali degli Olyvetty risiede proprio in questa urgenza ed esuberanza espressiva. (7.5/10)

A curious-enough little record, the first from Italian label Hundebiss is two short pieces of moderate noise and programming “written” by Berlin-based Riccardo Benassi and Claudio Rocchetti, heretofore known as OLYVETTY. The disc’s sleeve-as-selling point threw me a bit at first, tempering my expectations for the content given the extensive, hand-cut pop-ups and multiple panels (with printed paper sleeve attached) which would render a lesser recording superfluous. Luckily, the two sides present a tastefully sober session – not too purple, though hardly weak – a pleasant first release for the label (just the second for the duo), and worthy companion to the paper art. Side A entitled “In den fluessen noerdlich der zukunft” features the blown-out colors of metallic bowled resonance overwhelming a modem's bleat and thick chords of feedback; a gleaming groan locks in at several registers then finds the molested fragments of a salvaged violin concerto. Wayward guitar strings stress and pang over the heavy warp of so many layers coiling and releasing, the rhythmic play of compression cheating the track's actual brief duration. On the reverse, “Aneinander” starts on a stultified burst gesturing toward a harsher noise, when instead a dubby dialed-tone emerges to lay down a checkered pattern for fluid washes of repetition, both mechanical and overgrown with a stubbly foliage. Edition of 333 on black vinyl. Nice start. (Hundebliss 7”, 7€ HERE)
